Apple’s iPad will soon be spawning in Brazil, according to the country’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Aloizio Mercadante. Until now, the device has been produced solely by Foxconn in China, but by December Brazilian iPads will be hitting the market.
According to Brazilian website UOL, Mercadante not only spoke of Apple’s iPad, but also mentioned an investment in the video games industry:
“At first many doubted, but it will be the first time that the company will produce iPads outside Chinese territory. We are taking a big step for digital inclusion in the country.”Producing iPads locally will be a huge benefit to Brazilian Apple fans. The devices currently suffer from huge import taxes with sometimes result in prices more than double that of the original. With local production, the cost of the iPad in Brazil is set to reduce significantly.
“The games industry has increased revenue and employs five times more than the hardware, for example. It is a factory edge that opens a promising market for Brazil.”
