Back for the Future: Nike To Make Full Production Run Of The NIKE MAG In Mid October 2011. Will Retail For Under $300.

BEAVERTON, Ore., (October 3, 2011) – NIKE, Inc. (NYSE: NKE) today announced that due to extreme popular demand, a full production run the NIKE MAG will begin sometime in mid October 2011 and will be available in major retailers sometime in November.

The NIKE MAG shoes originally captured the imagination of audiences in Back to the Future II, when the character Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, wore them in the year 2015. With the recent limited release of the NIKE MAG, Nike has received an overwhelming demand for the futuristic shoes.

“Our offices were overwhelmed with phone calls, letters and e-mail from all over the world demanding the NIKE MAG to be put on our regular lineup that we were left with no choice to do so,” said Mark Parker, Nike CEO. “We understand that this might cause a backlash with the collector community but the amount of demand we have received for these shoes leave us little choice but to make a full release. Those who were able to enjoy the NIKE MAG on its original release should take pride that they had the shoes a few months before everyone else.”

The new batch of NIKE MAG shoes will be completely identical to the ones released in September. With the manufacturing assemblies still in place, only a slight adjustment to the manufacturing processes will be needed for a full mass production run but consumers should be rest assured that these newly released NIKE MAG shoes will have no difference from the limited edition run. Production is slated to start on mid October and the NIKE MAG shoes are expected to be available in retail stores for this holiday season.

2011 NIKE MAG shoes are expected to retail for under $300.

The first rechargeable footwear from Nike, the 2011 NIKE MAG shoes were designed to be precise replicas of the originals from Back to the Future II. The aesthetic is an exact match, down to the contours of the upper, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent NIKE in the strap. The only deviation from the original is additional foam support in the ankle and toe box for increased comfort. The 2011 NIKE MAG illuminates with the pinch of the “ear” of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge.
