Monster CEO Noel Lee Discusses Life After Dr. Dre
Forbes caught up with Monster Cable CEO Noel Lee at this year’s SXSW to discuss the state of the company in the wake of its split from Beats by Dr. Dre. Monster had been the exclusive manufacturer of Beats headphones, the sales of which accounted for half of the $1 billion headphone business in the U.S. The partnership dissolved early this year — a development foretold by HTC’s acquisition of a 51% stake in Beats for $300 million last summer — leading Forbes to put the question directly to Lee: What’s next for Monster in the post-Beats era? Quite a bit, it turns out: Monster will continue releasing its own line of headphones, with upcoming collaborations planned with Miles Davis and Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as a headphone line called Inspiration, featuring interchangeable headbands to complement one’s wardrobe.
