The Simpsons – Matt Groening Reveals The Location Of The Real Springfield

For over 23 years now, we’ve watched The Simpsons‘ opening credits and other gags throughout the show teasing us about where Homer and his family live. Turns out, it was all inspired by the town of Springfield, Oregon, not too far south from Portland, according to Matt Groening in a recent interview with The Smithsonian Magazine. (Groening even lived on a street called Evergreen Terrace growing up.) Up until now Groening has just let people believe that it is their Springfield whenever they ask because he didn’t want to burst their bubble, but this is the first time that the cartoon mastermind has revealed the true hometown of one of America’s best-known families. However, don’t let this sort of news make you think that Groening is thinking about wrapping things up; Fox has already signed up for seasons 24 and 25 so we at least have two more years of guaranteed laughs.
