Report: Chad Johnson's Wife, Evelyn Lozada, Files For Divorce 41 Days Into Marriage

Chad Johnson's wife, Evelyn Lozada, has filed for divorce following a domestic dispute Sunday morning, according to TMZ.com.

The site reports the star of "Basketball Wives" turned in the legal papers Tuesday afternoon, stating her marriage with Johnson was "irretrievably broken."

Johnson, recently known as "Ochocinco", was released from jail on $2,500 bond Sunday after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument over a receipt for a box of condoms. Johnson was charged with simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

Later Sunday, the six-time Pro Bowl receiver was cut by the Miami Dolphins.

Lozada released a statement about the incident earlier Tuesday.

"It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday," Lozada said in a statement Tuesday. "I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time."

The couple was married July 4, and the ceremony was captured by VH1 cameras for a reality TV show that has since been canceled. If terminated Wednesday, the marriage would end at 42 days.

Johnson's release from the Miami Dolphins will be featured on Tuesday's episode of "Hard Knocks" on HBO.
