Blake Griffin Signs With Jordan Brand
Los Angeles Clippers All-Star Blake Griffin will soon be joining Jordan Brand, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Griffin, who signed with Nike during his rookie season in 2009-10, was wearing a royal blue version of the Jordan Brand Super Fly sneakers during the Clippers' season opener at home on Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.
When ESPN.com reached Jordan Brand on Wednesday night, the company released this statement: "There is nothing official, but we're glad he's supporting the brand tonight."
Jordan Brand also didn't specify if Griffin will be wearing the Super Fly sneakers this season or eventually his own signature shoe.
Griffin is the most recent addition to the basketball sneaker line, which already features his Clippers teammate Chris Paul and New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony. Earlier this month, Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook officially joined, a few days after Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade departed the brand for Li-Ning.
Jordan Brand, a subsidiary of Nike, accounted for 71 percent market share of the U.S. basketball shoe market in 2011, according to SportsOneSource.
The news of the future sneaker deal comes just a little more than three months since Griffin signed a massive contract extension with the Clippers that could pay him as much as $95 million over the next five years.
