CLEVELAND -- Could the Cavs pursue LeBron James for a return to Cleveland in 2014?
It's an idea that has been floated and rumored before. But the idea has received an injection of new life following a report by Jason Lloyd in the Akron Beacon Journal over the weekend that stated the Cavs front office could potentially consider going after LeBron following the 2014 season.
Lloyd writes: Executives and agents around the league are convinced the Cavaliers won't do anything to jeopardize their ability to sign a free agent to a max contract during the summer of 2014, when LeBron James can again become a free agent. As fans in Northeast Ohio continue to howl and remain divided about the possibility of his return, more and more people around the league believe there is a strong possibility James will indeed return to Cleveland after next season.
LeBron remains a hot-button issue for many fans in Northeast Ohio after he jilted Cleveland on live television in 2010 when he announced his plans to join the Miami Heat.
Even LeBron has toyed with fans' affections and the idea of a return. In February of 2012, LeBron said prior to coming back to Cleveland for a match-up between the Heat and Cavs: "I don't know. I think it would be great," he said. "It would be fun to play in front of these fans again. I had a lot fun times in my seven years here. You can't predict the future and hopefully I continue to stay healthy. I'm here as a Miami Heat player, and I'm happy where I am now, but I don't rule that out in no sense.
He quickly backtracked off those comments, however.
So fans, stay tuned. Cleveland could possibly figure into LeBron's next big "decision" in his career.
