It's hard to imagine that it's really been a full decade since Michael Jordan last stepped on the NBA hardwood as a player, but sure enough, MJ indeed walked away from the game he revolutionized for good at age 40 some ten years ago on April 16th.
While the Wizards didn't come away with a win in Philadelphia on that Wednesday night, the game wasn't about the score -- it was a celebration all night long for the sport's biggest star. Even before the game tipped off, Jordan was introduced by legendary Bulls announcer Ray Clay, and gifted a custom golf cart from 76ers legends Julius Erving and Moses Malone.
Jordan finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in just 28 minutes, walking away from the game at the 1:44 mark of the 4th quarter after draining what would be his final shot, a free throw.
"Basketball has been my life," Jordan said afterwards. "It gave me a chance to experience life all over the world, not just here in the States. It taught me a lot of things about life in terms of respect, hard work, determination, achievement, setting goals, a lot of basic things in life. ... We've been a great relationship. It's been like my best friend, but sometimes you have to grow up and move away from your best friend. It's always going to be there in my mind and nothing is going to erase what I have attained just by having basketball as a friend."
