VIA: Apple announced this morning that it sold an ungodly number of iPhones during the iPhone 5s and 5c launches this weekend – 9million to be exact. The launch was Apple’s most successful ever, after Apple sold a recording-breaking 5 million iPhone 5 units during its launch.
Along with the stratospheric sales numbers, Apple also announced that over 200million iOS devices were updated to iOS 7 since its launch on September 18th, making it the fastest software upgrade in history.
Tim Cook released the following statement regarding the successful launch:
“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales. The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
The exact numbers of how many iPhone 5s units were sold verse iPhone 5c units wasn’t given in the press release, though some early estimations by third-parties have pegged iPhone 5c sales around 2.5million with the 5s bringing in the other 6.5million.
This is also the first time Apple has made the iPhone available in China on launch day which likely provided a nice bump for the company. iPhone 5s units quickly became scarce on launch day, especially the highly sought-after Gold iPhone 5s.
