A Mystery Woman Dropped Off A Rare Apple Computer For Recycling And Is Now Owed $100,000
VIA: After her husband passed away, a woman in her 60s dropped off a bunch of electronics at a recycling firm in Silicon Valley. According to NBC Bay Area, among the computer parts Clean Bay Area received was an original Apple-1 computer:
“We really couldn’t believe our eyes. We thought it was fake,” Gichun said upon digging through the boxes a few weeks after they were dropped off.
In 1976, Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built the models and sold them each for $666.66. It is said only a few dozen of the computers still exist today. It’s the policy of Clean Bay Area to share auction profits 50/50 with the person who brought in the items.
While the mystery woman refused a receipt didn’t leave her contact information, the recycling firm’s Vice President says he knows exactly what she looks like and that a check is waiting for her at their warehouse:
“Tell this lady to please come over to our warehouse in Milpitas again,” Gichun said. “And we’ll give her a check for $100,000.”
